Ljubljana, 17 September

Slovenia's candidate for this year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is "Kratki stiki" (Short Circuits) by Janez Lapajne, president of the Association of Slovenian Filmmakers (DSFU) Igor Korsic said on Monday.

"Kratki stiki", which won last year the best film award at the 9th Slovenian Film Festival in Piran, was the only film to apply to DSFU as Slovenian candidate for the Oscar. The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been conferring the awards since 1929. The Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film has meanwhile been conferred yearly for the best film in a language other than English since 1947.
The film intertwines three stories: a pretty doctor befriends a quadriplegic as she believes she is responsible for his condition; death of a boy connects his father and a gas station clerk; at night a city bus driver finds an abandoned baby near a stop.
