Parliament Speaker Discusses EU Presidency in Slovakia
Parliament Speaker France Cukjati discussed Slovenia's priorities during its approaching stint as EU president as he met with senior officials of the Slovakian parliament in Bratislava on Wednesday.
Cukjati said after the first talks of his two-day official visit that he also discussed the approaching enlargement of the Schengen passport-free zone, the new EU treaty and Slovenia's 2007 euro changeover.
Cukjati also met Slovakian Interior Minister Robert Kalinak with talks focusing on minority issues and meeting European standards in tackling them.
The speaker, invited by his Slovak counterpart Pavol Paska, is to discuss Western Balkans and Kosovo at a working dinner today. Cukjati is expected to be received On Thursday by Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic.
The visit comes after that of Prime Minister Janez Jansa in June, when he briefed Slovakian officials on Slovenia's experience with the adoption of the euro, which Slovakia plans to do in 2009.
