Economy Minister Discusses Cooperation with Japanese Secretary

Ljubljana, 22 August

Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak discussed on Wednesday in Ljubljana economic cooperation between Japan and Slovenia with Masaji Matsuyama, Japanese parliamentary secretary for economy, trade and industry, the Economy Ministry said in a press release.

According to Vizjak, Slovenia would like to strengthen cooperation with Japan in tourism and establish charter flights between Tokyo and Ljubljana. The minister added that the two countries already cooperated in the field of energy.
Matsuyama agreed that economic cooperation should be strengthened and emphasised that 60% more Japanese tourists travelled to Slovenia in 2007 over 2006.
According to the ministry, Vizjak and Matsuyama touched on innovation-friendly policies and transfer of know-how between the economy and research institutions. The pair expressed their satisfaction that the EU-Japan Summit is to take place during Slovenia's stint at the helm of the EU in the first half of 2008.
