Ljubljana/Zagreb, 28 August

Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak and his Croatian counterpart Branko Vukelic discussed on Tuesday open issues concerning the jointly-owned Krsko Nuclear Power Plant (NEK), agreeing that the issues be solved by mutual consent, in the spirit of good neighbourly relations and in accordance with EU standards.

According to a press release from the Economy Ministry, the ministers presented their positions on a special decommissioning fund, which Croatia should have established in accordance with the 2003 bilateral agreement on the NEK, but failed.
Vizjak and Vukelic also discussed the demands of the Croatian power utility HEP concerning undelivered electricity from NEK between July 2002 and April 2003. Croatia launched in 2005 a dispute at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington and wants Slovenia to pay EUR 30m plus interest.
The pair also touched on the issue of constructing a nuclear waste repository.
