Jansa Agrees to Enhance Ties with Lithuania on EU Issues
Prime Minister Janez Jansa met his Lithuanian counterpart Gediminas Kirkilas in Bled on Saturday, when the pair agreed to intensify cooperation in the EU-related issues, in particular during Slovenia's spell as EU president next year.
Kirkilas is in Slovenia for the second annual conference of the Strategic Forum Bled, which is to kick off at the Alpine resort on Sunday afternoon. Jansa and Kirkilas are reported to have assessed bilateral relations as friendly and problem-free, while they also agreed that the countries could upgrade cooperation in business, in particular. Slovenia is especially keen to benefit from Lithuania's experience in the European neighbourhood policy. The pair of ministers also exchanged views on the priorities of Slovenia's presidency in the first half of 2008, highlighting the issue of energy.
The situation in the Western Balkans was also on the agenda today, while Jansa briefed his Lithuanian opposite number on Slovenia's experience in the adoption of the European single currency, the euro.
Prime Minister Jansa will be hosting a reception at Bled Castle in the evening on behalf of the heads of state and government and foreign ministers taking part in the international conference in Bled.
