Slovenia will open consulates in Belgium's Mechelen, Turkey's Antalya, the Mexican capital Ciudad de Mexico, and Japan's Kumamoto. The decision was taken at Thursday's government session.
Slovenia is to relocate its consulate from Antwerp to Machelen, and name Belgian banker Frans Lorquin the honorary consul. Lorquin was a supervisor at Nova Ljubljanska banka, Slovenia's largest bank, between 2001 and 2006.
The government will open a consulate in Antalya, Turkey, which will be headed by the honorary consul Sedat Peker. The consulate will cover the Turkish provinces of Antalya, Mulga, Burdur and Isparta.
The Mexican capital Ciudad de Mexico will also get a Slovenian consulate, and Ariel Lopez Torres is to be named the honorary consul. Torres knows Slovenia well and has good ties with Mexican politicians and economists, according to the press release.
The consulate in Japan's Kumamoto will meanwhile cover the southern part of Japan. It will be headed by businessman Yukio Mori, who established in 2001 an association of Japanese-Slovenian friendship.
