Prime Minister Janez Jansa, accompanied by two ministers, met on Monday Hartmut Mehdorn, chairman of German rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB), for talks on cooperation between DB and Slovenian logistics and transport companies.
Jansa said he was pleased with the talks after he, Finance Minister Andrej Bajuk and Transport Minister Janez Bozic met Mehdorn and Norbert Bensel, the head of the Deutsche Bahn's logistics division. Talks revolved around continuing development of Slovenian rail operator Slovenske zeleznice and cooperation between Slovenian logistics companies and DB.
The management of DB called for a partnership with Slovenian companies in order to optimise business operations and improve services. The German interlocutors also presented the mid- and long-term development vision of DB.
Jansa said that cooperation with a strategic partner is very desirable to facilitate the development of logistics and modernise Slovenske zeleznice. He believes that a suitable business model can be found to benefit all the companies.
The talks come after prolonged media hints on planned links between DB, Slovenske zeleznice, port operator Luka Koper and logistics company Intereuropa.
According to media reports, DB is particularly interested in acquiring a stake in Intereuropa and Slovenske zeleznice. The German company is also to invest EUR 9bn into the Slovenian railroad network, including the second rail between the port of Koper and the transport hub in Divaca.
