Biennial of Graphic Arts to Kick Off in Late Summer

Ljubljana, 12 August

The 27th Biennial of Graphic Arts (MGB) will get underway on 6 September, while six accompanying events will open ahead of the main exhibitions. One of them will be a show of works on paper by New York-based artist Thomas Nozkowski, which will open on Monday at Mestna galerija 2 in Ljubljana.

Nozkowski's paintings on paper portray the world of his mind, his memories, joy, history. Often these works on paper are bigger than his canvases, however, they are not studies, but perfected, articulate and raw.
In en ever lonelier and digitally uprooted world, Nozkowski's works, which are a bit unusual, have a calming effect on the observer, communicating art can be hand-made, touching, clever and personal, according to Mestna galerija, the Ljubljana city gallery.
While the show on Nozkowski will close on 9 September, other accompanying exhibitions will open at the beginning of September in venues around Ljubljana.
The eight main events of the biennial, entitled Razvezane oci nemira (Uncovered Eyes of Restlessness), will feature works of artists belonging to different generations and styles, along with an exhibition by the the winner of the last biennial.
The exhibitions will take place at the Ljubljana-based International Centre of Graphic Art (MGLC) and private apartments in Ljubljana, while the winner of the 2005 Grand Prix, the Poli/graphic Triennial of San Juan of Latin America and the Caribbean, will exhibit its works in Ljubljana's Cankarjev dom congress centre.
During the biennial, the visitors will be able to take part in guided tours of the exhibitions, while workshops for children, as well as adults will take place, along with lectures in Slovenian, English and Croatian. A number of other events such as round tables, film projections and tea parties will also take place.
The biennial, which will feature traditional graphic art, video, photography, along with printed, computer and internet art, will this year be a month shorter than so far, and will close at the end of October.
