A book dedicated to Slovenia's great architect Joze Plecnik in Slovenian and its translations into Italian and English were published by the Ljubljana-based Cankarjeva Zalozba publishing house at the end of July to mark the 50th anniversary of his death.
The book entitled "Joze Plecnik v Ljubljani in Sloveniji" (Joze Plecnik in Ljubljana and Slovenia) includes descriptions of some 30 examples of Plecnik's work in Slovenia and especially in Ljubljana, with photographs, city maps and other useful information.
The projects featured in this book were already included in the bestseller presenting his work in Vienna and Prague as well as Ljubljana "Joze Plecnik: Dunaj - Praga - Ljubljana" (2006).
The Ljubljana-born Plecnik (1872-1957) studied at the Vienna Art Academy. In 1920, he was appointed as the architect to head the renovation of Prague's castle.
Plecnik's legacy in Vienna, where he created his earliest work, include several residential houses and the Church of the Holy Spirit in the district of Ottakring.
Plecnik drew the the plans for several major Ljubljana landmarks, including the National and University Library, Zale cemetery complex, the triple bridge across the Ljubljanica river and the market alongside the river's banks.
