Prime Minister Janez Jansa is scheduled to meet heads of all parliamentary groups on 17 August to consult them over Croatia's response to Slovenia's latest initiative in the efforts to resolve issues dividing the countries.
Plans for the meet were welcomed by the opposition factions. It was foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel who first mentioned such a meeting would take place as he told the press last Friday that Croatia's response would be first examined by the Foreign Ministry in cooperation with international law experts, while Prime Minister Janez Jansa would consult other party leaders. Slovenia submitted its proposal for the resolution of outstanding issues to Croatia in July, suggesting the sides could turn to the OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration to mediate in the border issue. Nevertheless, Croatia responded last Thursday by suggesting the Hamburg-based Tribunal for the Law of the Sea as the institution which should deal with the border.
