Ljubljana to Host Europa Cantat International Singing Week
Singers from all over Europe will flock to Ljubljana between 12 and 19 August to participate in the Europa Cantat festival, which will feature workshops for mixed choirs, individual singers and small vocal groups.
The workshop for small vocal groups will be run by the German sextet Singer Pur, who will also perform on 14 August at the Radovljica festival of early and contemporary music (11-24 August). The purpose of the workshop is to formulate all characteristics of singing in a small ensemble, such as group practice, intonation, tuning and singing techniques.
Individual groups participating in the gathering, hosted by the St. Stanislav Catholic Institute, will perform at main events at the end of the week. Gary Graden, a renowned singer and conductor from Philadelphia, will be the one in charge of workshops for choirs and individual singers.
These workshops will focus on modern choral music written by Bo Hansson, Thomas Jennefelt, Arvo Part, Urmas Sisask, Andrej Misson, Nana Forte and Ambroz Copi, according to the organisers.
Europa Cantat is a Pan-European federation of young singers, which brings together national choir organisations, choirs, individual singers, conductors and composers from more than 40 countries. Slovenia already hosted the singing week in 2004. This time the participating singers come from Great Britain, Canada, Lithuania, Ghana, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy and Serbia.
