Book on Modern Slovenian Architecture to Sell Internationally
"New Architecture in Slovenia", a book presenting modern Slovenian architecture, has been launched by the international "SpringerWienNewYork" publishing house. The book, compiled by acclaimed architect Matevz Celik, presents 45 interesting buildings built by 30 architects during the past decade in Slovenia.
The book, which will be sold in Europe, as well as the US and Canada, is divided into three chapters and features 355 drawings and photographs.
The first chapter, entitled Continuity, features architects building on the basis of 1980s Postmodernism and the modernistic school of the famous Edvard Ravnikar.
Re-formulating, the second chapter, presents a generation that started working after 1990 and transformed Slovenian architecture following new economic and political trends.
Meanwhile, the third group, presented in the chapter entitled Adjustment, tries to achieve a harmonic balance through adjustments.
Some buildings featured in the book, such as the building of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia in Ljubljana, a McDonald's drive-in restaurant in Maribor or the Ljubljana Celica youth-hostel, to name but a few, have become icons of modern Slovenian architecture, while others have only been built this year.
The author of the book is an acclaimed Slovenian architect, whose project Trajekt.org, designed to develop architectural culture in Slovenia, received the Plecnik medal for important contribution to the development of Slovenian architecture.
