Gymnastics: Pegan Wins on Return to Horizontal Bar

Shangai, 29 July

Slovenian gymnast Aljaz Pegan has made a successful comeback to international competitions, sharing top place in the horizontal bar in the World Cup meet in Shanghai on Sunday.

The 33-year-old Pegan, who has not competed since April's European Championships, got a score of 15.525 in the final to finish equal first with Yosuke Hoshi of Japan. This is Pegan's 22nd victory in the world cup.
The performance by the two-time European Champion and World Champion from Melbourne in 2005, is a good sign ahead of the World Championships that will be taking place between 1 and 9 September in Stuttgart, which will also count to qualifying for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Slovenia's second big gymnastics name, Mitja Petkovsek, did not travel to Shanghai, preferring instead to train at home for the upcoming World
