Defence Minister Says Macedonia Meeting NATO Standards
Defence Minister Karl Erjavec said on Friday that Macedonia met all the criteria for NATO membership. Macedonia will be invited to join the bloc at next year's NATO summit in Bucharest, Erjavec said after meeting his Macedonian host and counterpart Lazar Elenovski in Skopje.
The two ministries signed today a memorandum of understanding on the use of the Macedonian Krivolak military training grounds by Slovenian troops. According to Erjavec, Krivolak will allow training of battalion-sized units, as well as technical and operational training that the Slovenian training grounds do not have. Erjavec and Elenovski also discussed Slovenia's approaching spell as EU president, with Erjavec saying that Slovenia plans to support Macedonia's endeavours to join the EU.
The Slovenian minister left Macedonia for Kosovo where he is to visit the 10th Motorised Battalion which is to complete its tour in the region in August.
