Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak and the head of the Ukrainian Kharkiv Regional State Administration Arsen Avakov who is visiting Slovenia, signed on Wednesday a memorandum on economic cooperation between Slovenia and the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Vizjak said at a press conference.
The Kharkiv region is an industrially developed area with almost three million citizens with great potential for economic cooperation with Slovenian companies, according to Vizjak.
Cooperation opportunities of primarily small and middle-sized companies will be examined more closely by a special working group, which is to be established.
Trade between Slovenia and Ukraine is constantly growing, so Vizjak. "At the same time, we are aware there is still a lot of potential we would like to use," Vizjak added.
A business conference to strengthen the cooperation between Slovenia and the Kharkiv region, suggested by Avakov, is to take place within the coming six months. Meanwhile, Avakov stressed there was great and specific interest among businessmen and companies in both countries. An example of good cooperation is Monis, a subsidiary of the Slovenian telecommunications company Iskratel established 12 years ago in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian delegation headed by Avakov started its two-day visit to Slovenia on Tuesday by making a stop at the chemical company Helios, while at Iskratel, the delegation discussed further possibilities for Monis. Before leaving Slovenia, the delegation is to visit the wood processing company Liko. Avakov said the delegation also visited the Bled School of Management to discuss its cooperation with schools in Kharkiv, which has the biggest university campus in the area of the former Soviet Union.
