Kolosej Shuts Down Multiplex, Will Focus on Foreign Markets

Ljubljana, 18 July

The biggest Slovenian cinema operator Kolosej has decided to shut down its multiplex cinema in Celje by the end of the month and focus instead on investing in foreign markets, primarily in Serbia and Romania.

Kolosej is planning to expand its activities, cutting the share of profit from cinemas to 33% of its total profits, which would make the company less dependent on films, Kolosej chairman Sergej Racman told the press on Wednesday.
The company's plans include opening an entertainment centre with bowling, billiards and video games in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. The centre will open in cooperation with Serbian company Delta, Racman added. Kolosej also plans to open next November in Belgrade a multiplex cinema with 11 theatres and a 3D cinema, bowling centre and video game centre. According to Racman, the investment is estimated at about EUR 20m. Kolosej also plans to build next year in Bucharest a 21,000 sq. metre centre which would include cinemas, an amusement park, restaurants and casinos, worth an estimated EUR 40m. A 3D cinema is to open in the seaside city of Koper in the autumn and a EUR 40m office and apartment building is planned in Maribor, said Racman. According to him, the Kolosej Group this year increased revenues by 25%, while its share went up from 71.1% to almost 75%.
