Port operator Luka Koper said on Friday its half-yearly net profit shot up 55% compared to last year to EUR 14.9m. The company generated revenues of EUR 56m in the first six months of the year, a 13% rise over the same period last year.
According to the company's press release, operating profit was up 19% over the first half of 2006 at EUR 11.8m. The results come on the back of a 6% rise in transshipment at the company operating Slovenia's sole sea port. A total of 7.7 million tonnes of goods went through the port of Koper in the January-June period, the company said.
According to the company, the biggest rise was seen in container and car transshipment, which rose 40% and 19% respectively. The port of Koper was now reported to be Europe's third port in terms of the number of transshipped vehicles.
The results were debated at Thursday's session of the Luka Koper supervisory board. The supervisors also appointed Koper Mayor Boris Popovic the chair of the supervisory board.
