European Central Bank (ECB) President Jean-Claude Trichet said on Monday that the appointment of Marko Kranjec to the post of Slovenia's central bank governor was very good news. He warmly welcomed Kranjec as an ECB Council member.
Trichet said he was looking forward to working with Kranjec and wished him a lot of success at his new position at the helm of Banka Slovenije.
Trichet also thanked Mitja Gaspari, former central bank governor, for his work in the ECB Council, and commended Vice-governor Andrej Rant for ensuring an efficient transition between the end of Gaspari's term at the end of March and the appointment of Kranjec.
The parliament appointed Kranjec last Tuesday. He was the third candidate for the post put forward by President Janez Drnovsek after parliament rejected Gaspari in January and Rant a month later.
