Lent Festival Kicked Off in Maribor
The Lent Festival, the largest music and theatre festival in Slovenia, kicked off on Friday evening with a concert by Dalmatian crooner Oliver Dragojevic on the main stage on the banks of the river Drava. This was the overture to 16 days packed with 400 music, theatre and sports events.
The main stage will also host Macedonian guitarist Vlatko Stefanovski with his band, Serbian rock band Riblja corba, and Serbian pop-rock musician Bajaga, who will perform on the last day of the festival.
Other highlights on the main stage include American hard rock band Living Colour, saxophonist Mace Parker and Cuban singer and composer X-Alfonso.
The festival includes the 19th international folklore festival Folkart, which will run between 26 and 30 June, featuring folklore groups from Cyprus, Chile, Macedonia, Mexico, Paraguay, Swaziland, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.
Like every year, the end of Folkart will be marked with fireworks.
Lent will see numerous Slovenian and foreign jazz artist performing at Jazzlent, and a number of Slovenian theatre groups which will perform comedies.
The Ljubljana street theatre festival Ana Desetnica will also visit Maribor during the Lent, while one of the venues will be dedicated to stand-up comedy.
The organisers are expecting a total of half million visitors from Slovenia and abroad.
