Imago Sloveniae Brings Music to Old Towns Across Slovenia
Over 100 concerts will bring fresh life to old city centres as the festival Imago Sloveniae (Images of Slovenia) does its rounds in more than 25 cities across Slovenia starting in the medieval city of Ptuj on Saturday.
The festival will open with a concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra, which will also be the opening event of its tour of Slovenia. The six-concert tour will end on 30 June at Ljubljana Castle, the organisers said on Thursday.
A biblical festival, held ahead of an international congress of biblicists, will present the Bible through music on 15 July in Ljubljana in what will be one of the highlights of Imago Sloveniae.
The chief conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra George Pehlivanian will lead his orchestra and the symphony orchestra of the Serbian public broadcaster RTV Srbija, accompanied by four solo singers and an international chorus of over 300 singers.
Apart from reviving old city centres, churches, monasteries, castles and museums, Imago Sloveniae promotes classical music, jazz and folk music, and it brings top performers to small towns.
The festival runs until 1 September.
