The 11th annual Brezice Festival of classical music, featuring 50 concerts by top artists from all over the world, is to be held at several Slovenian castles and churches between 6 July and 18 August, festival director Klemen Ramovs said.
In the run-up to the festival, running under the name SEVIQC Brezice, students from the Brezice primary school will perform "Wizard of Oz" on Thursday.
The official part of the festival will open in the Brezice-based Dolenjsko Regional Museum, where Spanish ensemble MUSIca AlcheMIca will play compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann.
Spain is this year's partner country of the festival, which will wrap up with a concert at Turjak Castle on 18 August.
Concerts of music composed between the Middle Ages and the beginning of 20th century will be held at 29 Slovenian castles and churches, as well as in some Italian and Polish cities.
The chamber orchestra of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija is to perform compositions by Jacobus Gallus, while pianist Erik Suler will play compositions by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The festival will also feature artists from Spain, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, Cuba, France and the UK.
According to Ramovs, SEVIQC Brezice remains one of the most prominent European music festivals, and will continue to promote music and Slovenian cultural heritage.
The EUR 602,000 project is funded by the Culture Ministry, municipalities, patrons and sponsors. The honorary sponsor is Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak.
