Govt Adopts Bill on Cooperation with EU in Criminal Matters
The government adopted on Wednesday a bill on cooperation with EU members in criminal matters, Justice Ministry State Secretary Robert Marolt told the press. The bill says that a plea for international legal assistance in criminal matters issued by an EU member is automatically recognised and executed throughout the bloc.
The bill defines the scope of cooperation in criminal matters between competent bodies in Slovenia and the EU such as apprehension and handover of persons as well as confiscation of property.
The cooperation also involves court sentences and other measures related to deprivation of freedoms as well fines, Marolt says.
The bill transposes nine EU Council decisions, measures and framework measures that regulate the European arrest warrant and surrender procedures, anticipate the establishment of joint investigative task groups and Eurojust, the aim of which is to strengthen cooperation in fighting serious crime.
