Lipizzaner Register to Make Horse Data Publicly Accessible
The renowned Lipica Stud Farm handed over to the Lipizzan International Federation (LIF) a newly developed global register of Lipizzaner horses at the federation's general assembly in Serbia this weekend, Kobilarna Lipica, which runs the stud farm, said on Monday.
The register provides for public access to the data bank of Lipizzaner horses across the world. It was developed in Slovenia by the stud farm, the Agriculture Ministry and the Ljubljana Biotechnical Faculty.
The register currently includes 3,400 Lipizzaners from four countries. LIF's goal is to gather the information in a public, internet-based register.
According to Kobilarna Lipica, Max Dobretsberger, head of the Viennese Spanish Riding School and the Federal Stud Piber near Austrian Graz, also proposed an intensification of cooperation between the two stud farms at the general assembly.
The cooperation is to be of great importance, as it would connect the Lipizzaner register with the international gene bank, which was developed by Piber Stud as part of the Copernikus project.
