Franciscan Edvard Kovac received in Toulouse on Wednesday a French National Order of Merit (Ordre du Merite) for his contribution to intellectual and cultural ties and exchange between Slovenia and France, especially in philosophy, theology and sociology, and for promotion of Francophonie.
Kovac is a university professor, philosopher, theologian and writer. He won the Rozanc Award for best collection of essays for his "Oddaljena blizina" (Distant Proximity), which is to be published in French translation in the autumn.
He is also the author of "Nietzschejeva tragicnost" (Nietzsche's Tragic Aspect), "Slovenska Nacionalna Zavest" (Slovenian National Consciousness) and "Modrost o ljubezni" (Wisdom about Love).
Kovac has been a professor of philosophy at the Catholic University of Toulouse for 24 years. He also lectures at the University of Bordeaux and at international symposiums in Strasbourg and Paris.
After graduating in philosophy and theology in Ljubljana Kovac took his PhD in Paris. His interests lie mainly in ethics, humanity and contemporary issues. He specialises in philosophical anthropology and contemporary philosophy.
