Show on Anatolian Carpets to Open at Narodna Galerija
Ljubljana, 12 June
An exhibition of Anatolian kilim pile carpets from the 17th and 18th century is to get underway on Tuesday at the Narodna galerija arts gallery in Ljubljana.
The handwoven kilims will be exhibited until 15 July and come from one of the most important private collections of kilims in Turkey owned by Ayan and Brigitte Guelgoenen, the gallery said on Monday.
Seref Ozen, an expert on antique carpets, compares kilims to language, expressing cultural symbolism and mythology. Women who weave the kilims use various shades to create timeless patterns.
Metaphors depicted on the carpets create a sensual impression that branches out into thousands of associations, Ozen added in a press release.
