Minister Stresses Meaning of Industrial Relations at ILO Meet
Minister of Labour, the Family and Social Affairs Marjeta Cotman is attending the annual conference of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), where she has underscored the importance of industrial relations. In a statement for STA, Cotman said that the importance of industrial relations in tackling challenges of globalisation would be the underlying theme of her address to the conference later on Monday.
She added that one of the main topics of this year's conference was overcoming discrimination in employment and occupations as set out in the Convention on Equal Renumeration and the Convention on Discrimination in Occupations.
Slovenia has ratified both documents, while it ranks among the best in the world in meeting their aims, Cotman told STA from Geneva.
The proceedings on Monday will also touch on the global report on the implementation of the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
Cotman is also scheduled to meet later today her Swedish and Finnish counterparts, Sven Otto Littorin and Tarja Cronberg, to discuss Slovenia's priorities as EU president in the first half of 2008.
She is to attend on Tuesday an informal meeting of labour ministers from the EU presiding trio of Germany, Portugal and Slovenia. The trio of ministers will also hold a meeting with their counterparts from Finland, China, Brazil, South Africa and India. The informal meeting will be dedicated to economic growth, employment and social security.
