PM: Slovenia Supports Relaunch of EU Talks with Serbia
Prime Minister Janez Jansa has told a Belgrade-based daily that Slovenia supports a relaunch of talks between the EU and Serbia because a democratic and pro-European Serbia is a key factor of stability in the region. "The democratic and pro-European government will obviously have to manifest clear political will and make substantive steps in securing Serbia's full cooperation with the Hague tribunal," Jansa said in an interview for Saturday's edition of Danas.
According to him, it is "high time for the region to make up for what has been missed and 'return to Europe'". Slovenia has been supporting these efforts throughout because it believes the prospect of EU membership is the best encouragement to stabilisation and the implementation of structural, political and economic reforms, Jansa said.
The prime minister also urged for a quick solution to the future status of Kosovo. "Delaying a solution, which must balanced, is a liability rather than an asset."
While Jansa does not think there is an ideal solution that would satisfy both sides to the maximum possible degree, he believes the least bad one must be found. "It is vital for the European Union to adopt a unanimous position on this issue, Jansa said in the interview for Danas.
