Govt Adopts Changes to Bar Exam Law
The government adopted on Thursday amendments to the bar exam act to align the test with the Bologna study programmes. The proposal sets a unified framework for the basic legal knowledge provided by the Bologna programmes, Justice Minister Lovro Sturm told the press on Thursday.
The amendments reduce the current court traineeship period from twelve to eight months in order to cut the long waiting lines of candidates applying for traineeship. The total period of training meanwhile remains unchanged at two years.
Another measure gives would-be judges, attorneys, prosecutors, lawyers and notaries the chance to acquire practical experience in offices of state prosecutors and not just at courts.
In line with the changes, law graduates will from now on hold the title of MA in law, in line with the aims of the Bologna process, an EU initiative to create a unified European higher education area by 2010.
