Slovenian MEP Appointed EPP Climate Change Coordinator

Strasbourg, 24 May

Slovenian MEP Romana Jordan Cizelj has been appointed the coordinator of the European People's Party (EPP), the biggest group in the European Parliament, in the parliament's newly-created Climate Change Committee.

Jordan Cizelj was selected by her party on Wednesday and will now work with coordinators from other parties in the body, the EPP said in Thursday's press release.
"The appointment is a great challenge and honour for me. The committee will deal with issues of key importance not only for the EU, but for the whole planet," said Jordan Cizelj in her reaction to the selection.
The Climate Change Committee is a temporary committee promoting a balanced approach of the European Parliament to the negotiations on climate change measures in the coming years and beyond 2012.
Its priorities will also include studying and proposing political solutions for the fight against climate change, the press release adds.
