Ballet Awards Go to Ljubljana Ballet Ensemble, Tijuana Krizman

Ljubljana, 24 May

The ballet ensemble of the Ljubljana Opera and Ballet House and ballet dancer Tijuana Krizman received on Thursday the Slovenian Association of Ballet Artists' awards for outstanding achievements in 2006.

The Ljubljana ballet ensemble won the "Lydia Wisiak" award, as it is officially known, for its performance of "Romeo and Juliet", choreographed by Youri Vamos.
The performance gave the ensemble the chance to present its artistic potentials, which had often remained concealed and untapped, the jury explained its decision.
Krizman got the award for her role of Aurora in "Sleeping Beauty". With her interpretation of Aurora she has sent a clear message that a new ballet star was emerging in Slovenia, the jury said.
This year the association also conferred for the first time an award for outstanding achievements in choreography.
The "Pia in Pino Mlakar" award, named after the legendary ballet couple, was bestowed on Milko Sparemblek for his international choreographic achievements and contribution to Slovenian ballet in his 60-year career.
