To mark the 90th anniversary of the ceasefire at the Isonzo front, the Tolmin Museum will launch on Saturday the exhibition "Isonzo Front 1915 - 1917" to shed new light on one of the bloodiest battles of the Great War.
The exhibition came about at the proposal of Arthur Rehberger from the Czech Republic, whose relative was killed at the front-line along the Soca river.
The Slovenian part of the exhibition was put up by Damjana Fortunat Cernilogar, the director of the Tolmin Museum. The exhibited objects belong to families of soldiers who fought at the front, and tell the story of three Austro-Hungarian soldiers.
The Czech part of the exhibition, dubbed "On the Isonzo Front with Czech Soldiers" was staged by Rehbeger and Josef Fucik. It presents events that led Czech-born soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the front.
The exhibition wants to draw attention to past mistakes, and investigate new, yet unknown historical sources that give a better insight into Europe's common history.
Opened by Slovenian MEP Alojz Peterle and his Czech colleague Jana Hybaskova, the exhibition runs until 30 September.
