After Prime Minister Janez Jansa said that SOVA, the security and intelligence agency, had illegally established a company, the parliamentary Commission for Oversight of Intelligence and Security Services visited on Tuesday, 22 May, SOVA headquarters. The commission chair Dusan Kumer said then that things were "not as horrible as interpreted by those who are investigating".
However, the third interim report of a government working group looking into suspected wrongdoing at SOVA, presented on Thursday, 24 May, said that SOVA had between mid-2004 and mid-2005 invested over EUR 45,000, almost half of its black-ops fund, in Webs, a web hosting company established in 2004. Based on the findings, the government has ordered SOVA to immediately carry out procedures to redeem the funds it had invested. The report has also been sent to the prosecution, which will examine the suspected illicit activities and possible unlawful material gains by individuals. The government on Thursday relieved former SOVA director Iztok Podbregar and all other former SOVA directors of the vow of secrecy, but just for talks he might have with the members of the working group.
Meanwhile, the Court of Audits announced on Wednesday, 23 May, it would review financial operations at SOVA and the Defence Ministry's Intelligence and Security Service (OVS), as part of the court's annual plan of activities. The review would encompass operations from 2005 until the first half of 2007.
