Ljubljana, 17 May

The cabinet adopted on Thursday a draft national higher education resolution for the 2007-2010 period. The aim of the document is to create a single higher education and research area and increase the funds for higher education studies and research to 5% of GDP.

The document aims to facilitate the exchange of know-how between higher education institutions, science institutes and companies, balance the number of the young applying for various higher education programmes and improve the share of adults in all forms of life-long learning, Lesjak said.
The document moreover aims to improve the study conditions and increase the number of graduates, as well as increase the amount of higher education institutions and achieve better regional coverage, said the state secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education.
The document is based on expert positions approved by the higher education council, a government-appointed body, and strategic development plans for Slovenia, Lesjak added.
