Photographs of reflections replaced the numerous graffiti on the banks of the Ljubljanica, the river that flows through the Slovenian capital. The spring cleaning of street art was organised by the Ljubljana Municipality as part of the annual activity "Za lepso Ljubljano" (For a Prettier Ljubljana).
The operation cleaned 382 square metres of walls between the triple bridge and the Shoemaker's bridge in the old city centre which now play host to a series of eleven photographs by Dunja Wedam, featuring the Ljubljanica.
The month-long activity that began on 22 March, World Water Day, and will end on 22 April, Earth Day, will also clean city streets, passageways, roads and parks.
It will traditionally close with the cleaning of the Ljubljanica riverbed, with divers expected to clean some 2 kilometres of the river on 21 April.
Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic said on Friday that his aim was to make Ljubljana a "city we could be proud of", as Slovenia's capital celebrated its first mention in written records, dated to 1144.
Jankovic, elected in October, has recently ordered the removal of numerous illegally-built small gardens, a feature of various parts of the city, as the Slovenian capital is gearing up for the EU presidency which the country will hold in the first half of 2008.
