A photographic exhibition devoted to American Indians opened at the Slovenian Museum of National Heritage in Ljubljana on Tuesday. The exhibition, entitled "The Holy Legacy - Edward S. Curtis and the North American Indian", was an initiative of the US State Department. It will close on 2 May.
As US Ambassador to Slovenia Thomas B. Robertson said the exhibition provides an instructive insight into the life of the American Indians during the last years of their dominance of the wast American wilderness.
The exhibitions offers 60 photographs taken between 1906 and 1930 by photo historian Edward S. Curtis. They were taken from a personal collection of Christopher Cardoz.
"We will never be able to set right" the injustices suffered by the North American Indians, "we can however use this exhibition to shed light on their history, to honour the indigenous people and turn to the the future", Robertson stressed in his address.
