Defence Ministry Sets up Cavalry Honour Guard

Defence Ministry and Kobilarna Lipica, the state institution managing the Lipica stud farm, signed on Wednesday an agreement on the establishment of a cavalry honour guard unit, Defence Minister Karl Erjavec said in Lipica.
The unit will be used for protocol purposes, said Erjavec as the cabinet wrapped up its visit to the SW region of Istria and the Karst.
We decided to establish a cavalry unit with the Lipizzaner horses to present the heritage of these famous white horses to visiting dignitaries, added Erjavec.
The ministry is to pay EUR 125,000 per year for the project.
The unit will consist of 15 horsemen. Kobilarna Lipica will provide trainers, equipment and stables for 15 Lipizzaners.
