Petra Majdic Takes 4.5-kilometre Sprint in Stockholm
Petra Majdic outran the world's best cross-country skiers at the 4.5-kilometre classic sprint in Stockholm on Wednesday. Majdic beat the second-placed Virpi Kuitunen of Finland by 4.5 seconds, while Anna Dahlberg of Sweden came in third, 5.6 seconds of the pace.
The 27-year old Majdic was overjoyed by her third world cup victory of the season, especially since she managed to outclass the world's best cross-country runners.
"I am so happy I can't even talk. I craved this victory for several weeks ... The feelings are exceptional," the winner told public broadcaster Radio Slovenija.
Slovenia's second competitor at the event Katja Visnar finished as 33rd, missing an appearance in the quarter finals by 29 hundredths of a second.
The victory put Majdic on third place in the overall world cup standings with 839 points. Kuitunen holds the lead with 1,579 points, while Marit Bjoergen of Norway is second spot with 841 points.
