New Minister Wants to Spur Creative Thinking

Ljubljana, 16 March

Ziga Turk, the recently appointed development minister, has said that his office would nurture direct relationships with people responsible for development in all the ministries and on the regional level. We want to spur creative and entrepreneurial spirit, Turk told the Friday edition of daily Dnevnik.

He added that the powers of the Office for Development would as soon as possible be regulated by a decree on development planning.
Asked which of the project in the government development resolution for the period between 2007 and 2023 would get his priority, Turk answered that all projects were equal as the office was tasked with monitoring the implementation of all of them.
He announced he would meet all heads of project teams in the coming months to get acquainted with their activities and revealed that projects in more advanced stages of development would get priority treatment.
Regarding the implementation of the economic and social reforms, the office will stress the social component and focus on the labour market, the minister without portfolio told the Ljubljana-based daily.
Other important goals of the office's social policies include the sustainability of the pension system and improvements to the health system, he said.
Turk was confirmed by parliament on 6 March, becoming the first new minister at the office about a year after Joze P. Damijan resigned from the post. The office was in the meantime headed by State Secretary Andrej Horvat.
