The state-run Pension Fund Management (KAD) is selling premises in one of Ljubljana's landmarks. The first skyscraper ever built in Slovenia, the Neboticnik, has been waiting for a while to be restored to its former splendour.
KAD published a call for bids in the papers on Wednesday, offering its premises in the upper part of the building, from the 9th to 13th floors. Along with the roof terrace the premises cover an area of 1,030 sq. metres.
The prospective buyers need to submit bids by 22 March, while they can only buy the whole of the area available as the sale in parts is not possible.
The bidders are required to make a commitment to sign a contract within ten work days after receiving the notification in case their bid is chosen.
They also need to pay 10% of the money they offer as a deposit guaranteeing the seriousness of the bid. The offer is open to domestic as well as foreign individuals or legal entities.
Conceived by architect Vladimir Šubic (1894-1946), the Nebotičnik was inaugurated on 21 February 1933. With a height of just over 70 metres, it was at the time the highest residential building in Europe and the highest building in the Balkans.
Nebotičnik rests on 16 support pillars set 18 metres into solid ground. This design makes it one of the most earthquake-safe buildings in Ljubljana.
The top floor used to house a cafeteria and the roof terrace offering splendid views of the city. (sta)
