Minister Designate Wants to Promote Entrepreneurial Spirit

Ljubljana, 09 February

Ziga Turk, the candidate for development minister without portfolio, says he will focus on increasing awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship and creativity among Slovenians. After all, it is people, not the state, who will drive development with their ideas, work and money, he told STA on Friday.

The primary task of the state is to ensure a stimulative legal and economic environment, he added.
The Development Office should do more than just follow reform measures, it should make sure that all state activities become "developmental" and that more budget funds are earmarked for development, said Turk.
He added that the he would present specific tasks before a competent parliamentary working body.
Asked why he accepted the nomination, Turk said that "working on the development of one's country is an honour and duty, which has to be accepted gladly and responsibly."
"On the other hand, making wise political decisions based on practical experience from my previous work and views on the future will be a big challenge."
Turk, the supervisory board chairman of telco Telekom Slovenije, was nominated by Prime Minister Janez Jansa on Monday.
