Slovenian Wins International Radio Play Award
A radio adaptation of the play "Tristo milijonov metrov na sekundo" (Three Million Metres Per Second) by Slovenian director Irena Glonar has won an award at the International Radio Play Festival "Prix ex Aequo 2007" in Bratislava.
The play won the award on 2 February in the category exceptional artistic execution of a radio play aimed at adolescents, public broadcaster Radio Slovenija said on Friday.
It tells the story of a nine-year-old boy, Erik, who lives with an abusive alcoholic mother. Exceptionally intelligent and very good in maths, he is introduced to Einstein's theory of relativity, which allows time to flow faster.
According to the festival's website, the play secured the award because it deals with an important topic and attempts to show the gloomy sides of children's everyday life in an authentic way.
The award for the best radio play aimed at children went to German "Weihnachtsmann Polizeilich Gesucht" (Father Christmas: Wanted for Questioning), while the best radio play aimed at adolescents was awarded to the Swedish "Aeventyrsveckan" (Adventure Week).
