Slovenian President Janez Drnovsek is critical of the United States for its lack of leadership on climate change in his latest post on the website of his Movement for Justice and Development. "It is clear to almost anyone how misguided the policy of the greatest superpower is, but the country is still stubbornly clinging on to it."
Drnovsek, who signs his regular post at www.gibanje.org as Janez D., wonders why the president does not take action and assume leadership. "Europe would gladly follow, as would Japan and Australia, which has had a three-year drought," he says.
"There is an empty space for leadership, why does he not fill it? He could secure a place as a great president," writes Drnovsek, who was prompted to writing by the latest hurricane-force winds and the unusually warm winter in Europe.
According to Drnovsek, humankind is destroying the climate. "There is not much more time left for decisive change with which to change the behaviour of corporations and individuals. It is not too late now, but it will soon be."
