Slovenian Boats Awarded in Dusseldorf

Duesseldorf, 22 January

Slovenian boat maker Elan has captured the award for the best European sail yacht in the category of up to 10 metres for its 340 model at the Dusseldorf Boat Show. Another Slovenian company, Seaway, was awarded for the Salona 37 model, adjudged the best in the category of 10-12 metre sail yachts.

The 340 yacht is among one of the newest products churned out by the Slovenian sports equipment maker, which is in the midst of an intensive investment phase aimed at upgrading its boat production. One of its plans is to enter the segment of big sail yachts (of over 20 metres).
The 340, designed by world-respected yacht designer Rob Humphreys, was premiered last May at the Internautica boat show in Slovenia's Portoroz.
Elan also premiered its newest product, the 410 sail yacht, at the Dusseldorf show. According to a report in business daily Finance, the yacht already has buyers in Norway, Italy and Great Britain.
Finance wrote last Wednesday that the boat, which has a base price of 149,000 euros, being showcased in Dusseldorf would head to its new owner in Norway after the show.
Luka Modrijan, head of marketing at Elan Marine, the boat arm of the sports equipment group, told Finance that the company expected the new model to at least match sales of its predecessor, which racked up sales of 250 yachts.
Meanwhile, Slovenian boat company Seaway shares the honours with Croatian boat maker Ad Plastik for the Salona 37 model. The boat was designed by Seaway and is being produced by Ad Plastik in Croatia's split.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the Bled-based company, owned by two brothers hailed for their innovative approach to boat making, has won the award for a best European sail yacht.
Seaway's previous successes at Europe's biggest boat show included the Shipman 63 (awarded in 2006), Shipman 50 (2005) and Skagen 50 models (2004).
