The Search for New Location for Roma Family Continues

Ambrus, 23 and 24 November

Protests continued amidst the search for a new location for the Strojan family, with people living in places that were rumoured to become the Strojan's new home organising watches to prevent their potential arrival.

The protests were also staged in a borough on the eastern outskirts of the capital Ljubljana on Thursday and Friday, prompting Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic to withdraw his offer of a to host the family which is still housed in an obsolete barracks in the town of Postojna, after being relocated from the village of Ambrus nearly a month ago.
Prime Minister Janez Jansa meanwhile met the head of the Slovenian Roma Association Jozek Horvat Muc on Friday, 24 November, and said that the current situation of the Roma is not good. Jansa said that he would not yet present tangible solutions on the issue of the Strojan family, as a massive effort is currently underway to find a suitable location for them.
