Slovenia's top cross-country skier Petra Majdic won the sprint event in Finland's Kuusamo on Saturday.
Finland's Virpi Kuitunen took second place, 1.9 seconds off the pace, while Norway's Marit Bjoergen came in third (+4.9) in the 1.2 kilometre sprint. The victory comes after Majdic's 10th place in Germany's Duesseldorf and 8th in Sweden's Gaellivare, the two previous events in the 2006/2007 competition. Vesna Fabjan, Slovenia's second competitor at the event placed 27th in qualification and ended her run in the quarterfinals. Majdic had one of the two top finishes for Slovenia at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics (6th place). She then went on to win a World Cup sprint event in Norway's Drammen as well as came third at the Mora Marathon in Sweden.
