As part of efforts to bring the EU closer to the people, the European Parliament's Information Office in Slovenia is to stage a number of public forums in the coming days.
The events are part of wider efforts of the European Parliament aimed at reviving a debate on the future of the EU in the wake of the introduction last year of a period of reflection for the proposed EU constitution, the European Parliament's Information Office said in Wednesday's press release.
The efforts envisage members of the European Parliament debating issues relevant for the future of the bloc with the people, who in turn have a chance to voice their concerns, suggestions and grievances.
As part of the series of public forums organised by the European Parliament's liaison office in Ljubljana, a Forum for the Future is to be held in the western Slovenian town of Nova Gorica on Friday.
Moreover, a meeting with the public is being organised in the NE Slovenian town of Lendava on Saturday, the office said.
According to the press release, the event in Nova Gorica is to focus on the debate on the Schengen border between Italy and Slovenia and regional cooperation. It is to be attended by Slovenian MEPs Borut Pahor (PES) and Lojze Peterle (EPP), as well as local and regional officials from both sides of the border.
