Slovenia Finds Innovation Policies of Key Importance
Innovation policies are expected to be of great importance during Slovenia's EU presidency in the first half of 2008, Economy Ministry State Secretary Andrijana Starina Kosem said at Monday's meeting of EU ministers responsible for competition.
"Slovenia finds innovation policies extremely important, since they are a key element of socio-economic reforms, which are expected to be a priority during Slovenia's EU presidency," Starina Kosem said after the meeting.
The ministers discussed mainly issues connected with innovation policies and the single market. Slovenia welcomed the Finland's decision to chose innovation policies as a main issue of its current EU presidency, Starina Kosem added.
The discussion focused on five main topics: innovation policies as a priority task, the speed of the process, cooperation between the main players in innovation, the transfer of the contents to the educational system and the protection of intellectual property rights, Starina Kosem said.
Slovenia called for cooperation between the key players in the field, since only this would enable "undisturbed transfer of new innovation contents into the educational system," she added.
Slovenia also supported the adoption of an "efficient and cost effective patent for the protection of intellectual property".
Innovation, in particular the new innovation strategy, will also be in the focus at the informal EU summit in October in Lahti.
