Average Slovenian Produces 1.16 kg of Garbage Each Day

A total of 844,949 tonnes of municipal waste piled up in Slovenia last year, 797,721 tonnes of which was collected by public refuse companies. This translates to 1.16 kilograms of garbage per Slovenian per day, data from the Statistics Office shows.
According to the figures, the total amount of municipal waste generated by Slovenians in 2005 exceeded that of a year earlier by 1.5%. Compared to 2002, Slovenians were generating around 5% more rubbish. The majority of municipal waste, around 80%, collected by municipal companies ends at landfills, while only a small percentage is destroyed, recycled, given to collectors or sent abroad, the office's figures show. By comparison, the Czech Republic generates around 0.76 kilo of municipal waste per person daily.
