The government wants to create conditions for the active involvement of the elderly in employment, Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs Janez Drobnic said after the government's session on Thursday, at which the cabinet adopted a strategy for the security of the elderly until 2010.
The strategy underscores solidarity, peaceful coexistence and the importance of quality ageing and is an interdepartmental document, Drobnic told the press.
It is meant to increase the the quality of services for the elderly and improve solidarity and coexistence between the generations, he explained.
The strategy moreover continues with the emphasis on numerous programmes and services, while it also stresses the interdepartmental component in searching for answers to key questions.

In the area of health care the document emphasises prevention, quality of health services and the stability of the health insurance system.
The document also deals with the necessary education of the young and middle generations for coexistence with the elderly and touches on the need for life-long learning.
In the area of residential planning, the strategy stresses the construction of suitable residential and public spaces, while in transport it calls for the development of transport means suitable for the elderly.
