Members of the Slovenian cabinet paid a visit to Slovenia's leading research institution, the Jozef Stefan Institute (IJS), as part of their tour of the central Osrednjoslovensko region on Wednesday. The IJS sees its future in working with the economy, Economy Minister Andrej Vizjak said after the visit.
The government officials stressed that the visit to the IJS was by no means a coincidence, stressing that the current government had made research and development a priority in its policies.
The IJS is the biggest and best Slovenian research agency, which is why the government considers it to be very important, especially in being a link between research and businesses, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Jure Zupan said.
As part of the visit, government officials were informed of the IJS's ongoing projects that are being carried out on behalf of businesses, both domestic and foreign. Vizjak said that there were more than 100 projects currently in the works.
The stopover at the IJS was one of a number of items on the government's agenda during its tour of the central Slovenian region, the last in a series of visits to all of Slovenia's statistical regions.
Osrednjeslovensko is Slovenia's most developed region with a variety of businesses where services, especially retail, prevail.
